How the GST Calculator Works

The GST calculator adds GST to a net amount or extracts GST from a tax-inclusive total. It is useful for receipts, product pricing and checking tax portions on invoices.

Formula

GST amount = net price x GST rate / 100. Gross price = net price + GST amount. For inclusive prices, GST portion = gross price x rate / (100 + rate).

Example

At 10% GST, a $100 net price becomes $110 gross. If $110 already includes GST, the GST portion is $10 and the net price is $100.

Limitations

GST rates, exemptions and reporting rules vary by country and product category. Confirm the correct rate before issuing tax documents.

How to use the result responsibly

  1. Check that every input uses the unit and time period shown beside the field.
  2. Compare the result with the worked example and formula above.
  3. For financial, tax, health, or legal decisions, confirm current rules with a qualified professional or the relevant authority.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is GST inclusive pricing?

GST inclusive means the tax is already inside the displayed total, so the calculator extracts the tax portion instead of adding it on top.

Can I use this for invoices?

You can use it to check the math, but invoices should still follow your local tax authority rules.
