How the Tax Calculator Works
The tax calculator estimates tax by applying one or more selected tax rates to a base amount. You can calculate tax as an added charge on top of a net amount, or extract the tax portion from a total that already includes tax. This makes it useful for price checks, receipt reviews, invoice estimates and quick comparisons across supported countries.
Formula
For tax excluded amounts, tax amount = base amount x tax rate / 100 and total = base amount + tax. For tax included amounts, tax portion = total x tax rate / (100 + tax rate).
Example
If the base amount is $1,000 and the selected tax rate is 8%, the tax is $80 and the total is $1,080. If $1,080 already includes 8% tax, the calculator extracts $80 as the tax portion and $1,000 as the pre-tax value.
Limitations
Tax rules change and may depend on location, product category, business status, exemptions, filing period and local rounding rules. Use this calculator as a math and planning tool, not as professional tax advice.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between tax excluded and tax included?
Tax excluded means the amount is before tax and the tax is added on top. Tax included means the entered amount already contains tax, so the calculator separates the tax from the total.
Can I select more than one tax type?
Yes. Select multiple tax types to see a combined estimate and a line-by-line breakdown of each rate, tax amount and effective rate.
